Larger Diameter Bar Tables

When choosing a bar table, one of the main things that comes to mind is the size of the table top as a larger one lets you seat more people around it. With diameters available from 60cm to 90cm, you can choose an ideal design that will suit both your space and seating requirements. Examples such as the Naples also come in varying top sizes so you are able to select one to match your preferences.

The standard diameter we offer for the majority of our pedestal bar tables is 60cm, and these usually have a base diameter of approximately 45cm. To maximise their stability, they are always designed around their centre of gravity. As the height increases, the centre of gravity also rises and it therefore becomes less stable. This is also the case when the diameter of the top increases in size. With that in mind, high tables are typically more susceptible to stability issues compared to that of their lower counterparts. To counteract these issues, designers have to produce bases that are larger or heavier and made from solid steel in order to lower the centre of gravity.

The diagram above displays how the centre of gravity and stability changes through different table heights. For example, Figure 1 is a dining table that clearly has the lowest centre of gravity (marked by a red cross). It is therefore the most stable of the designs. Figure 2 shows how with a taller bar table the centre of gravity starts to rise, and then continues to do so to a poseur version in Figure 3. Figure 4 then demonstrates what happens to a bar table which has a larger top. You can observe here that it has the highest centre of gravity of all the images and consequently has the worst stability. We have rectified this in Figure 5, as designing it with a larger, heavier base makes it more stable.

Like most products, bar tables do get more expensive as they get larger. As the top gets bigger, the cost also increases further due to the need for a redesigned base to ensure that it is stabilised and not top-heavy. As an alternative to this, we additionally offer four legged designs. The increased distribution of weight lowers the centre of gravity, often making them more stable than some pedestal designs.
