Dining Table Materials
With modern technology and a wider market of materials available, dining table designers and manufacturers have been having a field day. Traditionally set classical dining rooms are gradually becoming things of the past. With the back slash of a minimalistic approach to decor, many dining rooms are steering clear from grandeur and adopting a more contemporary approach to mealtimes.
Metals like chrome and brushed steel are being introduced into the dining space as they are clean and modern metals that complement Nuevo design. Table tops made in such metals match in perfectly with many new appliances and kitchen furniture, glamorously providing an upper market air of class to any room.
Glass cabinets and surfaces add a feel of sophistication and luxury to the more modern living/dining room. In this regard many are opting for a classy and immaculately striking polished glass surface for their dining table top. All glass tops are toughened via a rigorous process, starting by heating annealed glass to a high temperature of 650 degrees, at this point it starts to soften, its outer surfaces are then cooled extremely quickly which creates a high compression in them, this results in the strength of the glass being increased up to 5 times which makes its usage as a table top surface incredibly durable. This toughening process also imparts a safety characteristic to the glass, fully tempered glass if broken, does not shard or shatter, but fragments into relatively harmless pieces.
Glass tops come in all shapes and sizes, either with a matt or highly polished finish with the edges bevelled and smooth. Of late Black glass has become a real sought after alternative to clear glass, the simple chic look a black glass table top can provide to a dining table will turn dining into a whole new elegant experience.
