When making a decision on which bar stools they would like, some people may have backrests in mind. Stools with backrests, however, tend to be on the larger side, so can impinge on the space you have. Sometimes, such as with island worktops, the room you have on either side is not the same; you may have a walkway on one side so you cannot use stools with backrests, whereas on the other side this is not a problem.
