Our fine range of wood carvings include small and large carved wooden corbels. These are available in Lime, Beech, Teak and Pine. Corbels are wood carvings that are often used to enhance beams, shelf brackets e.g. on fireplaces and kitchens. As general rule hardwood wood carvings (Teak) have been hand carved whilst the soft wood carvings (Lime) have been pressed. Both types of wood carvings and corbels have their own attributes. Pressed wood carvings show more extensive detail than the Teak corbels and wood carvings. However the corbels in Teak or Beech demonstrate a beautiful grain and colour when finished. With a choice of woods you can easily colour match the corbels to your existing colour, or even paint them. Corbels and wood carvings are often laminated. This means that corbels and wood carvings are made up form a number of pieces of wood. The reason this is done in corbels and wood carvings is that it makes them more stable. Wood carvings and corbels can shrink and dry out with temperature differences and this minimises the effect. All corbels and wood carvings are at least 4 years old.
